Carpet color dreams

Teppichfarbenträume

It's always like that. I've been trying to put the rugs I've been crocheting since the winter online for a long time now. Actually there should be a few more - but as is always the case. And then came this and that and now I have decided to present to you what is there. I'm always a little nervous and so excited to see what you say about the carpets.

Because I can only make a few at a time and I have decided not to look for any employees for this, the carpets will only be available in limited quantities and unfortunately I cannot offer any one-off products. But: they give me so much joy and are something like the DNA of Lumikello - the very first piece I crocheted was a carpet - made entirely from old T-shirts. The gem had a diameter of 120 centimeters and lay in our hallway for a long time. (here are a few photos from Isabelle Grubert of these first pieces:)

I collected t-shirts, raided our closets and more and more carpets emerged. However, it quickly became clear that at some point the effort was no longer in proportion to the return, and I was always looking for colors, which paralyzed me creatively. Because the carpets are probably my most creative work. They emerge like an image; I experiment, ribble again, start again. The large carpets in particular are so very complex.

There is also the question of materials: on the one hand, I was often missing colors, and on the other hand, the quality of the carpets - especially the first ones - did not meet my requirements. At some point I started experimenting with finished textile yarn and quickly realized that there were some hurdles here too. The yarn is often of different thicknesses and I have to combine different qualities or certain colors are not available. All in all, it is currently a good opportunity for me to make high-quality carpets that meet my aesthetic requirements. And the textile yarn is a great alternative; It is made from waste materials that arise during the production of T-shirts. We are using more T-shirts in other new projects that will be reported on later.

These carpets are always unique - not just in terms of color. Since I combine yarns, they are sometimes a little thicker and a little thinner. I have crocheted a few smaller rugs for you that are wonderful for the bathroom or hallway or a children's room. With a diameter of up to 90 centimeters, they can easily be washed in the washing machine. They dry very quickly and are so practical. Larger carpets are simply too heavy for household machines; However, they can easily be washed in the dry cleaner. But my experience has been that they don't get dirty so quickly and are really easy to care for and suitable for pets. However, every now and then - as I manage - there will be larger rugs because I simply enjoy crocheting them and experimenting with colors too much. You can be excited.

All of these considerations also mean that the prices are very different - so each additional row of larger carpets is much more complex than the previous one and every centimeter more is a small feat of strength the larger the carpets become - in the truest sense of the word. Add to that the yarn, the effort and sometimes a little mistake creeps in when crocheting and the rug may be a little cheaper than a comparable one.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email. I would be happy to advise you.

The rugs will go live on April 4th at 6 p.m. to give everyone an equal chance to purchase them. There is a preview on Instagram.

Best regards

Eve
