Wow. That really bothered me. The first color I chose about 5 years ago was also the biggest mistake when planning the colors for the house. At the time we lived about 700 kilometers away in southern Karlsruhe and I chose the colors practically on the drawing board. In love with Danish Instagram accounts, forgetting that the color matched the picture that was set for the hallway, but might overwhelm the rest.
This is what the hallway looked like when we took over the house. On the left are the cloakrooms.
The hallway is huge and, when it is covered in lilac, it is even colder than it already was. Many people were really excited about the color - for me it never seemed right. And that's how it is sometimes. With so much moving, making a home a home, setting up a horse breeding business and a small company, the hallway fell by the wayside and became an eyesore. Especially because no alternative color appeared.

Then inspiration struck and it became clearer and clearer where I wanted to go. Wallpaper would be perfect for the entrance area. But which one? After a year-long search process (yes, really), I dug deep into my pockets, gave up dreaming of Swedish Joseph Frank patterns and contacted Polly Fern - an English artist who had created the perfect wallpaper for us.

The porch shines in new colours
Then one thing led to another. The playful, not too colorful, two-tone wallpaper was crying out for a cool counterpart, which it found in the front door. The base color was painted under the ceiling; the Murano chandelier now finally has its perfect place. Wow. That was done. But what color should the hallway be? We had fallen in love: with the ceiling color, i.e. the base color of the wallpaper.
The blue door complements the wallpaper perfectly.
But what didn't work was this color in the dark hallway, which didn't get much daylight. I painted the color in my bedroom, which was flooded with light - perfect. But here in the hallway it was just dead. I always say like Dr. Oetker Paradise Cream Lemon. What we needed was a delicate pink shimmering, pearly champagne tone and we found this at our favorite paint manufacturer Kolorat. Because there I could adjust and match nuances, as is otherwise only possible with a painter who mixes colors for you.
We test. One beige tone is too dark, the other too cool.
So the hallway was now painted. Including two doors, which I painted in the same color as the wall, to bring more calm to the hallway framed by doors, stairs and art. I have to say, I am more than happy.

And happiness was perfected with the "Nymphenburg". I decided against a large wardrobe solution, as the family mostly uses the back entrance and another wardrobe at the end of the hallway. So we only needed one wardrobe for guests and the beautiful "Nymphenburg" from Classicon is really perfect for that. If we need more space, we switch to the bench in the vestibule and an armchair.
The final touch is the radiator cover from Sentimo, which matches the wall colour of the hallway perfectly.
What else is on the wish list? Renovating the stairs. A carpet for the stairs and a shelf above the heater. A question of time. It remains interesting. Hopefully.
